Safety features at Beth Sholom Retirement Community (BSRC)

Direct DC battery backup provides 4 hours of PBX operation in the event that the local utility fails.

Calls to 911 generate redundant alerts. Tenant calls not only go to the local E911 authorities, they simultaneously alert eight attendants as to the location of the 911 call. The display on eight attendants locks with the extension (maps to room number) of the location of the E911 call until manually cleared.

Two redundant 23B+D ISDN PRI circuits provide a 46 trunk group for the facility. If a single circuit fails, it is taken out of service and the other circuit takes over. Yet, during brief periods of peak calling, the combined 46 channels can all be used at once.

AC surge protection and a common system ground were not overlooked when completing this quality installation.

Iwatsu's ISDN PRI I-CNIS feature provided many benefits to this customer

Iwatu's I-CNIS feature allows each extension behind a privately owned PBX to broadcast it's DID number as the calling party number (Caller ID) to the outside world. Infotel Systems, directed the CLEC providing the dial tone to use the Caller ID to control three separate systems.

Caller ID - When tenants make calls, their telephone number shows up on the answering Caller ID phone. "It acts just like my home telephone, my daughter knows it's me calling if she is not answering all calls."- said one resident.  This feature was the easiest to engineer.

E911 - Each tenant's DID number is also transmitted as the E911 ANI on calls to the public service answering point. (PSAP). The emergency authorities get the tenant's call back number, street address, and room or floor number of the calling tenant. The I-CNIS feature saved the customer an additional $15,000 purchase (and monthly service fees) of the alternative E911 CAMA trunk technology.

Long Distance Billing - When each tenant makes a long distance call from their room, the charges are automatically tallied to the CLEC provided long distance platform. At the end of the month, the CLEC sends to the BSRC office staff a 130 page long distance bill separated sequentially by ANI. The office staff simply forwards this bill to the tenants. Without this technology, the only alternative would be time consuming analysis and printing of standard call cost accounting data output from a PBX connected call detail recorder.
