Question |
Answer |
|
If I now have
direct dial, I need Caller ID Name/Number to screen my direct calls.
What services can I use? |
Only ISDN (PRI
or BRI) provides these features. |
|
What
do I need to use DID/BRI? |
A compatible
PBX such as an Iwatsu ECS IP-PBX. Other telephone systems are known to
work but we have the most experience with Iwatsu. See us for a complete
list. |
|
Does the
Iwatsu ECS IP-PBX only use ISDN BRI line. |
No. The Iwatsu
ECS IP-PBX uses any line sold by any US carrier (Verizon, USLEC,
Cavalier, etc.) |
|
Can only Infotel Systems /Iwatsu do this? |
No. We just specialize in it. At least 5 other central
Virginia dealers have offered the service. |
|
I thought
other telephone systems can also use ISDN BRI lines? |
Most can use
ISDN BRI. Yet, they don't have the software to read the direct dial
information required to properly route calls. To them, BRI is just a
high quality digital line. Iwatsu provided the original test switch back
in 1999 for development of this service. |
|
What
carriers handle offer DID/BRI? |
Verizon,
Cavalier, and Telecove in the Virginia markets. Many more across the
country. |
|
If I purchase
the Iwatsu IP-PBX with ISDN BRI lines, can I later convert to other
types of telephone service? |
Yes. But to
preserve direct dial functionality, you would need to upgrade to a T1 or
ISDN PRI. |
|
Who owns www.isdn.com? |
We do. We are
ISDN specialist. We consult all over the United States regarding
special ISDN applications. |
|
What are the
advantages to Centrex ISDN networking over IP networking? |
It's
a fully meshed network. Far more reliable. (see link) |
|
How does the
Iwatsu ECS IP-PBX differ from other IP telephone systems? |
It can handle
more trunk types and stations types that an IP only PBX. The Iwatsu ECS
IP-PBX is the forth generation of a line of PBX platforms going back 18
years. The software was "ported" over to an entirely new OS in
2005. |
|
Why have I not
heard of DID/BRI? |
DID/BRI is
widely used in Europe and Japan for business applications. Iwatsu, a
Japanese engineered PBX offers it here in the US. Carriers may not wish
to discuss DID/BRI as it provides for lower telephone bills. |
|
Do
digital telephone lines sound better? Aren't all telephone signals
converted to analog anyway? |
Your stereo
speakers are certainly analog. But a digital CD sounds much better than
analog cassette tape as a music source. Telephone systems work the same
way. These lines will never hum, click, pop or hiss. It stays digital
until it comes out the handset. |
|
I thought ISDN
BRI was old technology? |
-Analog
lines have been around for over 100 years.
-T1
first commercial use was in 1962.
-National
(United States) ISDN BRI standard ratified in 1984.
-VoIP
became popular in 2003.
-ISDN:
older than VOIP, younger than a T1. It's a proven technology. |
