E-911 Features of the Iwatsu Adix PBX

Background

Enhanced 911 service allows the Public Safety Answering Position (PSAP) to determine the exact location and telephone number of the caller dialing 911. This feature is extremely valuable in cases where the caller is excited, confused or unable to give complete information. The location and phone number is automatically provided to the PSAP on the computer screen. For example, if a guest of a hotel dials 911, the PSAP operator is sent information with the phone number that helps determine the location of the caller, such as the room number or which floor the call originated. Even in cases where the location is given by the caller, this feature verifies the accuracy of the information in the database. At issue is many PBX's can not provide this location information at all. If they can, they do so via installation of expensive third party hardware and E-911 alerting trunks called CAMA trunks.

Adix PBX Provides Exact E-911 Location Address to PSAP

The Iwatsu Adix can triggger exact location information, via special signaling over ISDN PRI trunks to the customer's automatic location identifier (ALI) database submitted to the local exchange carrier. There is no extra utility service or equipment cost involved. Verizon is the keeper of this database for all carriers in Richmond, Virginia. Infotel Systems has a Henrico County, Virgina nursing home with a competitive local exchange carrier. In this scenario, Infotel Systems, our customer, the CLEC and Verizon all must cooperate to submit proper E-911 ALI information.

Adix PBX Provides Superior E-911 Alerting on Site

Relays within the Adix PBX can be programmed to Indicate Success and Failure of 911 Calls by tripping devices such as a loud ringer or external alarm. One relay may be programmed to activate when a 911 call is successful. Another relay may be programmed to activate only if a 911 call fails.
